Give me tubas and trumpets

Daily writing prompt
What was the last live performance you saw?

I have to really think about this, think way way back because it’s honestly hard to remember. I wouldn’t consider myself a concert person, you know, not like some people who take in as many live concerts as is humanly possible. When I was younger I guess I enjoyed concerts and my ex-husband was a concert person so that’s largely why I attended them as well.

But now things are different. It’s not like I’m 70, I’m just 47 but still. I really don’t care for the crowds and the line ups. Unless I’ve had a bit to drink I feel almost awkward at a concert, do I stand or do I just sit? Do I sing, everyone else is singing along but I’m kind of too shy to do that. I’m not a free spirit kind of person that will just dance and sing “like nobody’s watching”. Nuh uh, no thanks. Sometimes when I’m singing as I’m driving, I stop singing when I meet another car. Our city is quite small and traffic doesn’t move very fast so if I’m meeting another car and I’m singing, there is a possibility that there is enough time for the oncoming car to see me mouth some words and could probably actually figure out what the song is. And I don’t want that.

I’m actually having a hard time coming up with who I saw last in concert. It’s been more than eleven years for sure. It was probably someone country because that’s when I was in my country era. It might have been George Strait or Brad Paisley I’m not sure.

My kids still laugh at how and why, I decided when they were very small that we needed to see the Black Eyed Peas in concert. I think my youngest was three. But yep we were there. I loved the Black Eyed Peas and my youngest at the time was obsessed with the song “Boom Boom Pow”. That was a fun concert, probably because I was in my comfort zone, a mom with her kids just showing them a good time.

On the smaller scale of things, my older daughter Bella and I went to see a live performance by a chamber orchestra at our local high school last spring, probably about a year ago. It was cool and although that’s not my favourite genre of music, to be honest I did enjoy it. You just sit and listen. You don’t have to worry about jumping around or dancing or singing. It’s more on the boring side of things and I’m all about that it seems lately.
