The places you’ll go

Daily writing prompt
Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

I can recall a few favourite books from my childhood. One of them I mentioned yesterday in the very similar prompt, and that was The Diary of Anne Frank. But if I think back further than that, as a young child I received this huge hard cover book that I still have, called The Bedtime Stories Omnibus. It contained a bunch of short stories and poems for kids and I recall my Dad reading it to my sisters and I at night before bed.

When we were small he would lay down in my older sisters bed and all three of us would find a spot on the bed and he would read to us each night. It’s actually really sweet now that I think about it. This big burly, tough farmer laying in a little girls bed, flocked by all three of us, reading these kid stories. That’s a great memory.

Another book I really loved, I think I received for either my birthday or Christmas, around maybe age 5-6 and that was The Cat in the Hat. It was the hardcover version and attached to the back cover in a clear plastic folder, was a cassette tape that contained the audio version of the book. I would listen and follow along, turning the pages. I was fascinated by the Cat in the Hat and would read it over and over. I felt like I crawled right inside that story when I read it. How fun it would be to have this enormous cat as a babysitter, fun and strange.
