My misfortune

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite genre of music?

I think if there’s one theme across today’s posts it’s that most people love a variety of genres of music and I’m no different. I can’t imagine saying I only like heavy metal, always have and always will and do not ever stray from heavy metal. I suppose there is the odd person like that though.

Like the line from a country song “I was raised on country music”, unfortunately. Not that I completely dislike country music now, but it’s definitely changed and I prefer the older style. My preference for country music is the stuff from the late 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. George Strait is probably in my top 3 for country performers.

In Junior high and high school thankfully I expanded my tastes to include Roxette, Metallica, INXS, U2, Blue Rodeo (they’re Canadian), Aerosmith, Beastie Boys and I could go on and on.

After high school I discovered the Eagles and quickly became obsessed.

Around 2007 I decided I was done forever with country music and all the rest and I got into Rihanna, J Lo, Usher, Flo Rida etc but that only lasted so long.

The habit I’m into currently, which annoys my kids to end (I’m fine with that), is I find one song that I can’t live without and listen to that one song on repeat for weeks on end. This week that song is Billy Joel’s You May Be Right. Prior to that it was Mustang by Kings of Leon. Other recent obsessions I play over and over and over include Big in Japan by Alphaville, Somewhere With You by Kenny Chesney and Sister Golden Hair by America.

Other random favourites are The Spins by Mac Miller, Silent Lucidity by Queensryche and Here With Me by Dido.

I could keep going but I’ll stop. You’re welcome, for anyone who is actually still reading. I have to say that with regards to my kids and music, it thrills me to no end when they are playing the music in the car and they put on a song (from their playlist) that I introduced them to, love that.

  1. Oh wow, America?! No one ever talks about them anymore but I played that cassette til it wore out. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love that you annoy your kids so much, makes me feel like I’m not alone in the world!

  2. I only just came across America a few years ago! I was at work and heard Sister Golden Hair on the radio, shazamโ€™d it and immediately downloaded it. I mustโ€™ve listened to it exclusively (in the car) for three weeks straight, no lie!
And yes annoying/embarrassing them is my own little revenge and slice of heaven lol ๐Ÿ˜‚
