My political views have most definitely changed as I’ve gotten older. When I first turned eighteen and was handed the privilege of voting, I really didn’t consider the parties too much, I simply voted for who my parents and grandparents had always supported.
Moving from a rural setting where most people are working hard for their money, yet also doing very well financially, to a more remote, northern area of the province where many people are not doing well, really opened my eyes to problems I didn’t know existed.
Because I’m Canadian I feel that (possibly very naively), no matter who is in power, they won’t do us too wrong. Of course there are issues that certain people strongly believe in, which the party in power may not support, but all in all I feel like we’ll be okay as a country. The differences in the nuances are pretty small.
I see the three main political parties like sisters, one wants to have money and be fiscally responsible, that’s her number one goal. The other two don’t care so much about having money, they’re a bit of a mixture of each other and they worry more about people than money. They feel like the money will sort itself out somehow.
I realize this is way over simplified and I’ve probably highlighted how little I actually know about federal politics but that’s my take on it.
We will have a federal election in 2025 and I’m excited for it. I think I know who will win and I’m not happy about it but things could be much worse. At least we don’t have a DT, (although he’s been compared to him), I don’t think he’s that bad.
It seems like this is just how things go with politics. One party gets voted in and they might do one or two terms and then people tire of them, sure they screw up here and there and hey, it is impossible to please everyone.
So in the next election, the other party who’s been building momentum gets elected and they do a term or two and then it flips back to the other party.
It goes on like that. I feel fairly safe with it all because I am Canadian.
