I’ve been thinking about how to answer this most of the day and I’m coming up short. This is not a question I’ve been asked before and I’m realizing that, much the same in my adulthood, as a kid I never got attached to things either. I’m more detached than attached kind of person I ‘spose.
I honestly can’t think of one thing that I felt attached to, especially if we can’t name people. Then I would have said my Gramma.
If I think back to my most prized possessions as a kid and teenager, they would have included my walkman and my bike. Dating myself here by saying walkman, when I was in my later teens I guess it was a discman.
When I think back, I had my walkman on a lot of the time. Spent my baby-sitting money buying double A batteries for it and tapes (cassette tapes). I had those cheap foam headphones on my ears for walks, in the backseat on road trips and any time I rode my bike, and I did that a lot.
Growing up in a rural area on a farm can be lonely and sometimes I’d put those headphones on, jump on my bike and pedal up and down the highway just hoping to meet a car and wave. It was simply entertainment. I probably spent hours riding my bike and listening to Corey Hart, Roxette, Alannah Myles, Glass Tiger and Rap Traxx.
