I had a crazy business idea and I came this close to getting it off the ground, the lingerie store. Crazy because there I was a single mom, freshly separated and living in an apartment with three kids, ready to quit my job as a nurse and throw caution to the wind. Nobody’s Business never took flight and as I’ve written about before, I backed out at the last second.
I’ve had other crazy ideas, maybe not crazy but weird, like selling homemade knitted dishcloths. I think I sold two.
I tried to start a speed dating business but couldn’t drum up enough interest and when one guy called to inquire about it he thought I was like some sort of madam and would find him sex for a weekend.
Speaking of which, that would be a good business but I would feel sort of guilty taking a cut when I’m not actually doing the “work”. I read the autobiography of the Mayflower Madam and she was a very smart lady.
There’s this new culture out there with (some) young people where slut shaming is no longer cool and women are absolutely entitled to do what they want with their bodies and apparently not be shy about it.
It’s so different from when I was in high school, or maybe it had something to do with the rural location I was in but the norm was girls had boyfriends and if girls slept around it was sort of frowned upon.
I actually really agree with the idea of today’s generation that females should be allowed to do what men have been doing for decades, and be just as proud of it.
Okay I’ve gotten way off topic here. I guess the point I was trying to make was that I don’t see anything wrong with women providing a good time, for an income, as long as they are totally in control of the situation. I don’t like the idea of someone getting involved in it out of desperation or because they feel they have no choice, however.
I could never be the Mayflower Madam 2.0 because I’m too afraid of being judged. And it’s probably illegal. And what if one of them was hurt, abused or even murdered by these slimy guys who want to pay for sex. Okay nevermind.
