My to-don’t list

Daily writing prompt
Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.

I’m going to go with “making a to-do list for 200 Alex”.

The very odd time I will actually write down a to-do list but most of the time there’s this stubborn Type B part of me refuses.

My older sister, Corinne, is textbook Type A and has lists all over the place. Lists for the day, lists for the morning, a list for her husband, a list for the kids.

She’s super organized. And I refuse to be so.

Don’t ask me why. Oh actually I know why, it’s because some part of my brain wants to categorize people and ideas or put them in their boxes. Like, oh she is like that or she does that, and because I am this, I do the opposite. It’s rather childish.

Sometimes I write down things I need from the store that I absolutely don’t want to forget, like hairspray, vanilla, the essentials. But when it comes to ingredients for supper, I’ll write “stuff for supper” on the list or just “supper” and I’ll know what I mean.

Then I’m left wandering through the store, searching both my brain and the aisles for all of the items I need to make supper.

Maybe I’m a bit stubborn.

  1. So insightful!! I really love this because you’re just playfully acknowledging a sibling dynamic I’ve seen with my kids too, or remember from school days. Sometimes the distinctions are made to be in contrast, and sometimes they are just strongly noticed!

    1. Thanks Stephanie, it’s funny how we (or maybe just I) don’t outgrow these dynamics 🤭

      1. I think noticing them is a sign of sort of outgrowing them, which doesn’t mean we shed them. It becomes something lighter, then. 🙂

  2. I use an app on my phone for lists. It’s fun to check them off. And if I wake up at 2AM with a great idea, I add it to (one of several) lists.

I can even share lists, kind of assigning tasks to my kids. I like those ones!
