Posthumous gifts

Daily writing prompt
Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received.

I’m not in the mood for ‘my kids are my life’, (they really are the air I breathe), or thank god for my brain and my eternal optimism (hehe).

I think the best gift is one I’ve not yet received. That would be a wad of cash. Like lots of it. Maybe some land. Possibly a Louis Vuitton purse.

THOSE are really good gifts.

If I have to say something nice about my ex-husband it’s that one year for Christmas he got me a jewelry box and inside was some cash to spend on myself and tickets to see George Strait. He did good that year. I will always remember that. I was obsessed with George Strait at the time.

I do like receiving old or antique items from family members after they’ve passed on. Family heirlooms like that really mean something.

I remember as a kid saying to my Gramma, when you die can I have this or that? It’s kind of giving Addams Family, that way of talking but I don’t know, it’s just how we were with Gramma. She’d say yes, put your name on the back so you can claim it as yours ’cause I’ll forget (plus she’d be dead).

  2. My Nana had an old glass cabinet for showing off knick-knacks like they did in the old days (I’ve got one in my ‘retro’ house from an Great-Auntie, my mum was happy I took it before it was thrown out… plus I have a 1920s clothes cabinet from my Grandpa). Anyway, there was a sailing ship made of sea shells in my Nana’s cabinet, which I think she promised to quite a few of us kids. My cousin got it in the end, by my brother reckons he was promised, and I was promised as well! Nana was just saying yes, she probably forgot who she said it to in the end:-)

    1. Aww poor Nana she probably didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings so she kept saying yes to all lol…knowing she wouldn’t be there to have to actually figure out who it went to ☺️

  4. I never understood the love for handbags. I eventually learned I wasn’t suppose to understand it. I never will because I’m a guy. I just know that they make my wife happy and that’s all that I really needed to know.
