We’ve played this name game before and my story is pretty boring.
But just in case someone is newly following my blog or missed the previous post about names, my middle name is Joanne.
I was named after both of my grandfathers, Carl (Carla) and John (Joanne).
Naming babies after family members seems to be a big thing in my family. I kind of followed suit with my kids but now I’m not so sure I love the idea.
I remember being slightly disappointed, even as a small kid, when I learned where my names came from. Having considered myself “Gramma’s girl”, I was sad that I hadn’t been named after her, my paternal grandmother. Plus I was never really close with either of my grandfathers. They were both great people, but I didn’t form a close bond with either.
I ended up naming my older daughter after my Gramma. So at least I have that I suppose.
I think I mentioned before that the grampa I was named after, John, was John Smith. A real life John Smith. Born in Scotland and moved to Canada with his family around the age of two.
I love men but I don’t feel like talking about men today, on International Women’s Day.
See? Had I been named after either of my Gramma’s today, this post would have been fire.
