I think I’m going to go with cows. Maybe it’s because I grew up on a farm and really like cows.
The thing is, I have always thought that being a wild animal is terrifying. I can’t imagine being a fox or a rabbit or a moose and just living the survival life. At any given time, someone is after you, wants you dead. Wants to eat you even. Tear you apart limb by limb.
And just sleeping in the bush alone all night, in the cold and snow? It sounds awful. I’m not cut out for that. I mean yeah, I do consider myself tough but I’m more cow tough than moose tough.
Cows have it pretty easy really. The farmer provides the meals, provides the water. They’re safe in a coral or pasture or barn. Not too much to worry about.
They hang out in groups, they have friends. They get to have babies and lick them and love them. They’re never in a rush to go anywhere.
They sleep on a bed. At least my Dad’s cattle did, in winter. He’d lay out pitchforkful’s of straw for them to sleep on and stay warm on.
Each day he’d go out and “clean the cow’s bed” or sometimes my sister Gena or I would do it. This involved removing all of the cow patties and fluffing up and adding to the straw.
It’s not a bad gig really, if I have to be on four legs.
