This is actually difficult to answer as my city really only has two restaurants that aren’t fast food or just for take-out.
We have a place called Boston Pizza, which is part of a chain of restaurants, and probably the most popular one in Thompson. The food is good enough but it’s the kind of food that’s probably mostly pre-made and then thrown on a grill or heated up somehow, “cooked” if you will, and then served.
It’s not like they have actual chefs in kitchen whipping things up from scratch. For the most part anyway.
The Hub is our other dine in establishment and it’s local and family run. I’m assuming the name was taken from the fact that Thompson is unofficially known as “The Hub of the North”.
The Hub’s menu includes things like chicken souvlaki, ribs, pastas and for lunch my favourite thing to order is a Reuben sandwich, fries and gravy on the side.
About twenty-five minutes south of the city is a Provincial Park known as Paint Lake. It has an amazing place to eat but it’s hours are somewhat fickle.
Other than this we have a plethora of fast food options and if you really want to try something different, well there’s the 750 kilometre drive to Winnipeg.
The last thing I ate in Winnipeg and thoroughly enjoyed was a falafel shawarama.
Man I’m so hungry right now.
