I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s so of course I remember life before the internet.
I think life was slower, less…invasive. Warmer, closer.
Less interactions overall but more face-to-face interactions, or at least voice-to-voice.
You couldn’t really say things and hide behind a device. Unless it was a letter. Which wouldn’t arrive for weeks.
I love being able to google and find out anything right now. Instantly. But I miss magazines. And newspapers.
Sam Hunt has a song I love called Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s. I ‘spose it’s true but I think it would have been even easier if we’d had cell phones. Send a text, “it’s not you it’s me, bye”. I never got the chance to do that.
My kids use Tinder and honestly it sounds like a riot. Talking to all kinds of people from all over. Safely, through a device.
When I was their age I had to actually go to the bar. Dress up, spend money, just to meet a guy you find out the next day is a complete dud. But you’ve still got your beer goggles on and you marry him. Okay whoops, didn’t mean to go there…
I’m happy I’ve known both worlds, pre-internet and today. It’s a wild ride.
