I loved babysitting as a kid, except for the family who would save up the dirty dishes for three days in anticipation of me being there eventually to wash and dry all of them.
I also really didn’t appreciate the other little jobs she gave me, like picking all the dead crab apples off of the grass, in anticipation of her mowing the lawn. Whilst looking after her two and four year old kids.
Besides that, babysitting was great.
I worked for an auctioneer, helping out with pretty much everything during auction sales.
I loved all of my restaurant jobs as a teenager. Being a dishwasher is not so glamourous but the kitchen crew was always fun. Waitressing was the best. Meeting interesting people. Tips.
Back in those days the boss could harass and tease you without any worries of complaints. When you’re 19 it’s so fun…because your whole life is fun and you don’t take much seriously. Plus he was cute and not much older than I was.
In my 24 years as a nurse I changed jobs frequently. I get bored easily. I worked Acute Psych, Medicine/Surgery/Peds, Public Health, Homecare, Long Term Care. I worked in a specialty clinic with a surgeon and an OBGYN. During the pandemic I did Covid swabbing 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
In 2017ish I purchased a spray tan franchise and did that it in my spare time, on days off or in the evening after work. A few times I even did a spray tan on my lunch break. They literally take max, 15 minutes.
In 2022 I gave that up and my “spare” job became working for the newspaper, while still working fulltime as a nurse.
Right now, besides my Mom job, I’m a college instructor and I have no side jobs. It makes me feel very…not busy.
