Night life

Daily writing prompt
How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?

I should not have waited until the end of the day to write here. My brain is only working at about fifty percent right now. It was a long, productive and beautiful day. But I am exhausted.

As for the prompt, I do make concerted efforts to spend less time on my phone. A couple of months ago I deactivated Facebook and Instagram. Didn’t miss them really, only missed the memes. I have reactivated my FB but I pay very close attention to what I’m scrolling and I keep it brief. It’s actually come in very handy with the wild fire situation, as far as updates go.

I wrote a while back about missing magazines. Chilling on a Saturday evening with a magazine and some snacks. Nineties style. I plan to bring that back into my life but honestly I was so busy today planting veggies and flowers outside that it slipped my mind and now I’m far too tired.

Looking forward to a tepid bath to cool myself off and crawling under just a cotton sheet, I’ll be out in seconds.

Goodnight.

  1. i made the effort with magazines to go the tablet route. it seems easier but the more i thought about it, it was like reading someone’s post on WP. so i guess WP or the jetpack app is my magazine now lol.

glad your day was productive. i was wondering when you were going to post. i thought there was a bad development with the wildfire and y’all needed to prep or something. Mike

      4. i didn’t mention it but i also bought a smaller iPad to see if the mini form factor would spur the reading along. except for the most necessary papers that I need (WSJ, NY Post, etc.) nothing will replace the feeling of a magazine. now you’ve got me thinking of picking up a Dupont Registry or Simply Living magazine. Books though, like you, i will buy in paper form forever.

      5. Yeah I’m going to go search around town and see what’s still available for magazines…we don’t have many places left that still carry them I don’t think. Why am I obsessing over glossy pages right now??

      6. lol, there’s definitely a therapeutic quality to reading a magazine with a cup of coffee in hand!

  2. I thought it was funny that you are writing about getting unplugged at a time you were beyond needing to do just that. Glad you are working on taking time to recharge, CJ.

    How are the fires?

    1. Facebook is truly (and unfortunately) good for some things lol…we still haven’t had a drop of rain and it’s pretty windy today, waiting on updates and so far our city doesn’t have any fires close by 🤞🏽
