I don’t know, refer to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs I ‘spose. Right now all I can think about is rain. It just won’t rain. They keep forecasting 90% chance then it changes to 60% chance and ends up being nothing.
I was awake at 4 am and got up to check if it was raining. It wasn’t. They said 60% chance of 0.1 mm between 4-7 am. That was pretty accurate. When I woke up at 7:30 it had rained 12 drops, enough to see it on top of the bbq but not enough to be noticeable anywhere else.
Now the next chance of rain is Tuesday.
I’m not sure why but in the hour I laid awake from 4 til 5 am I was thinking about my maternal grandparents. They lived in Drumheller Alberta for most of my childhood, the dinosaur capital. Maybe because I was thinking of a road trip out there this summer.
We actually had a camping trip planned but the campground west of here where we were going to go, is probably going to burn down. So it’s either make a plan b or just stay home.
Anyway, my Gramma and Grampa Smith were the ones who taught me how to do the conversions from Imperial to Metric. They taught me such cool little practical things. We’d be travelling in their camper van across the prairies and Gramma would have a map in hand, she’d show me how far the next little town was, in miles, and have me convert it to kilometres.
Grampa Smith was the one who taught me the conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit too. Double it and add thirty and you’re roughly there.
A Gramma Smith kitchen trick I still use today, scrambled eggs in the microwave. They’re actually so good! And a quick healthy meal in a pinch.
I’m so lucky to have had the four amazing grandparents I had while growing up. It’s not imperative for a good life but it sure helps.
