Memory lane

It’s interesting how some memories are so clear yet others you don’t recall whatsoever. You’d only know they exist because someone else remembered and told you so, or you have photos or videos to prove it.

During the Christmas break, Bella-Lena insisted we watch old home movies. I’m glad she did. What a walk down memory lane.

One year old Bella-Lena who loved putting on a show and dancing when the camera was on.

Taz around six years of age being the bug that he always was, still is, to both of his sisters.

Sweet little Cordelia forever dressed in Taz’s clothes and talking about being a hockey player, from about the age of three.

I was surprised with myself in those videos. How calm I seemed, even with three small kids and their Dad out of town for whatever reason. I was handling it seamlessly. I was doing fun things with the kids. Breaking up fights between them yeah, but pretty chill about it.

I was happy to see snippets of me like that. It actually made me tearful. Through those videos I was able to exactly go back and be in some of those moments. Life felt full and complete.

It’s nice to have proof that they were these little people and I was a young mom at one point. Because, apparently, I forget a lot.

This photo is just one example of forgotten moments. I do remember some of the times the kids sat on Santa’s knee but this one I do not recall whatsoever.

Bella-Lena & Taz, I believe I was about 8 mths pregnant with Cordelia

      1. actually CJ, if you’re interested. I just bought this used unit a while ago called a DJI Pocket 2. It’s a prior generation model as they have the 3 now so you can find used units all over the place. But to put it simply, it’s a small camera sensor with a small camera and control housing (hence “pocket”) however, you buy that and you won’t have to buy any stabilizing gimbals or holders; the unit is both camera and stabilizer itself.

I figure you’d love to use this for family gatherings and fishing trips with Sid. It will instantly make your videos look more “professional”-ish

  2. There’s something really moving about seeing yourself clearly again, without judgment. Those moments mattered… even the ones you don’t remember. It shows how present you were. You were calm, you were capable, you were there in the moment. As a fellow parent and human, that resonates with me.
