Less is more

Question: do most of you have your WP linked to social media? So that when you post on WP it shows up on FB/Twitter/X/Instagram etc?

I would like to do that in order to get more readers but I’m a bit too scared to have a lot of people I know read my blog. Not many of my friends and family even know I have a blog. Some of the things I write are personal and I’m okay with strangers knowing these details but not my family and some friends.

I would like to get even more personal but I’m not yet ready for that. My three older kids know I have a blog and although they don’t regularly read it, I cannot spill my guts completely here.

I only wish I could be as brave as Megan Miles and “write like no one’s reading”.

  1. Have you tried a platform like Quora.com? You don’t have to use your real name and you can share to your heart’s content. There are topics for pretty much anything you can think of. There are other private sites for victims of toxic relationships.

    1. I’ve never heard of it, thanks! I will check it out!

  2. I get it. I’m pretty anonymous here. I’ve shared with only a few people but asked them to keep a lid on it. It’s easier for me this way.

    1. I’m really an open book type of person and honestly I tend to over share, even to the McDonalds drive thru guy, so it’s hard for me to keep secrets. It’s just not in my constitution, but I guess right now I have to.

  3. I manually share my posts so I can write captions.

  4. Once in a while I post something to my leturos account on Twitter.. My site is in my profile. In the old days, I had more than 35000 followers there. I deleted that account and didn’t go back for a couple of years. Now I have a very small account. I get a couple of views if I post there. I’ve posted to Facebook a couple times but I prefer to keep leturos separate from my real identity.

    1. So do friends and family know that Leturos exists here?

  5. I just told a woman who lives with her sister across the road about it. I only have a couple friends and they live far away. They don’t know about it. Since I’ve posted on FB once o twice, my family probably knows but they don’t pay attention. I’m only close to one sister.

    1. That’s so funny, I am the same, I can easily tell random strangers or very casual coworkers about my blog, probably because I know they don’t care and won’t be looking it up. Different story with family and close friends though.

  6. I have very little overlap, for similar reasons you describe. I have one WP connection I follow and who follows me on my (private) IG, and one with TikTok. I don’t use FB almost at all anymore and Twitter only occasionally, so that’s not much of an issue. My kids are not going to take the time to read this blog unless I pass away suddenly or something like that.

It isn’t ideal. I’d love to think I could have all the doors and windows open in every SMS site I use, but I don’t know that i have the wherewithal to regulate the boundaries and keep up. Also, like you mentioned on another post (or comment?) the journaling nature of a lot of what many of us are going is quite particular. To blog for a following would (for me, if I were going to and I have thought about it) mean reformatting my site and connecting more SMS, cross publishing, getting MUCH better at SEO, etc. 🙂

  7. If I have something I write that I want others to see, I might post it on my Facebook. I have a setting on there that only allows certain people to see the post. After my divorce from my first wife, I created it so that mutual friends wouldn’t see it and tell the ex. Not even my boys from that marriage see those posts because I know that their mom would be all over it. Many of the faithful readers subscribe to the blog, so they get a notification of new posts.
