It’s 5:42 and I need to soon get ready for work but I’ve been looking for an excuse to tell this typical CJ story since Monday. Nothing notable has happened in the 45 minutes I’ve been awake so far today and honestly, nothing notable happens over the span of two weeks usually. So I’m going to go with what happened Monday.
My students are doing a clinical or a practicum right now. So towards the end of their course, I take them on site to the hospital and to a long term care facility where they put the skills we’ve learned into practice. It’s exciting in a way yet tiring because we have to be up and starting our shifts so early, just as in the old days when I worked as a nurse.
Anyway, on Monday we were at the long term care facility and I was using the visitor washroom. Don’t worry, I’ll keep the story as clean and PG as possible. So as I was sitting there, to my horror, the door suddenly opens and I look over and upwards and coming into the bathroom I was using, was an elderly gentleman. I looked at him and screamed. I have no idea why my first instinct was to scream bloody murder but it was and I did. I had forgotten to push the little button on the door handle and lock the door. The poor guy. He quickly closed the door.
He was not someone who lived in the facility but his wife does and he was there to visit her. I feel so bad and so foolish. First of all for not locking the door. Second of all for screaming. Part of me wanted to hide so that I wouldn’t have to face him, immediately after coming out of that washroom but part of me wanted to go to him and apologize. I hid.
That’s my kind of notable.
