Lemon cake and burritos

Daily writing prompt
How important is spirituality in your life?

I had to look back because I was sure we had just answered this prompt very recently but no, that one was specific to religion, not spirituality. So I guess the two camps on this are that it’s separate from religion completely, and then for others spirituality IS religion.

I think it’s whatever you want it to be. Am I highly spiritual, no. I do believe in a god out there but I don’t tie that entirely to spirituality. I am trying to live my life in a way that involves meditation, self awareness and acceptance and to some people that falls under the category of spirituality.

Because I was raised in a house, and within a family, that attended church every Sunday, that was ingrained in me as spirituality. I’m not saying it’s wrong. But now as an adult, I can choose my own type of spirituality and though it might involve tidbits of religion, it’s not the end all and be all.

My gramma was highly spiritual in the religious sense. She understood much of the bible and she could argue her stance on anything religious to any other denomination. I remember as a kid that sometimes neighbors or friends, who had never stepped foot in a church or said a prayer, would come to her for guidance and reassurance when facing their own mortality. I imagine they asked her things like how do I pray, will I go to heaven, etc.

I think any kind of spiritualness is great, no matter what brand yours is. It can be comforting to believe in a higher power yet if you’re the type of person whose life contains zilch spirituality then that’s great too. This prompt is not really one that I feel very passionate about. My thoughts on it are, you do you.

It’s my oldest child’s birthday today, Bella-Lena, or “Buzzy” as we call her. She’s twenty-three today, wow. I don’t really understand how that’s possible as I am only twenty-three myself lol, wink-wink. Time flies. She wants a lemon cake, which I have never made before so wish me luck. And she wanted chicken shawarma for supper but only if it’s exactly like the one we get a specific restaurant in Winnipeg, which I couldn’t find a recipe for so burritos it is.

Obviously words can’t express how much I love her. That firstborn. She’s like an extension of myself. And she’s grown up to be so much of me, yet so not. She has this whole creative side that I only wish I possessed. I actually feel bad for her on special days like today lol, because she is my party planner, decorator etc.

I am terrible at that stuff so she always steps in and does the decorating and provides that perfect esthetic for special days. Now for her own special day, if she wants that esthetic she’ll have to do it herself. My younger daughter Cordy is more like me in that way and she’ll be of no help imagining the decorating either.

But we’ll figure it out, we always do.

      1. Aw, thanks for saying. There’s a small circle of bloggers I look forward to reading consistently, then a larger circle of ‘often enjoy’. You’re in that small circle for me. 🙂

Happy birthday to your daughter 🙂
As for spirituality I agree with you, for me it’s both and I’m very open-minded as for others views or beliefs 🙂
