1950’s housewife

Daily writing prompt
If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

Forced? Seems extreme. I think if there was a common denominator in my wardrobe it’s dresses. I love wearing dresses. Almost daily I put on a dress. I am not sure when this started, I didn’t always love dresses but more and more as I get older I appreciate them.

My last job was working in a clinic and we had to wear scrubs so I wore scrub dresses, even in winter with pantyhose. On casual Friday, a fancier dress or skirt. I read about successful people who have a “uniform” type of situation to minimize distractions and the time it takes to get ready in the morning and so I kind of went with that. Mondays I wore the looser fitting black scrub dress, Tuesdays was the purple button up dress, Wednesdays the blue scrub dress, and Thursdays the tight fitting black scrub dress.

Having that schedule made getting up in the morning and getting ready so easy and simple. Now that I work in a college and everyday is business casual, it’s a whole other story. Normally I don’t even pick out my outfit the night before much less plan it out for the week and sometimes getting dressed in the morning is pretty stressful and leads to a huge pile of tried on and taken off clothes on my bed and on the chair.

What I enjoy about dresses is their comfort. Specifically no waist band. Whether I’m at work or it’s the weekend, you will find me in a dress. When I’m at home, a dress and an apron over top. I feel naked without the apron now too. As soon as I get dressed the apron gets put on as well. It kind of gives 1950’s housewife but I make my own damn money.

I’ve become so accustomed to wearing an apron that I feel I can’t even put a load of laundry in the wash until I put one on. It’s kind of ridiculous. But there are some really cute aprons nowadays and I have a great little collection of them.

So back to the prompt, if someone said wear “this” til the day you die or else, it would be a dress and a cute apron over top.

  1. Cool. I’ don’t know if my wife has a dress. We’ve been together for nearly 23 years.

    1. Lol, it’s my brand I guess you could say….sometimes lately when I try and wear pants other than leggings I actually feel kind of masculine ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I never heard of a scrub dress before. I always thought scrubs were scrubs. Scrubs do look pretty comfy, though.

    1. Baggy OR scrubs would probably be comfy but I’ve never worked in the OR….scrubs have their own trends and nowadays they are slim fitting and I just find them too restrictive.

      1. I never knew there were variations of scrubs. But it makes sense. Why wouldnโ€™t there be?

      2. Oh yesss big big money to be had in the scrubs business! The fancy shmancy ones are costly. I had a home based business 15 years ago selling scrubs, right before online shopping took over the world.

  5. You look adorable! I love dresses, especially flowy ones, but since I gained some weight I don’t feel as great in them as I used to. You inspire me though! The apron’s cute too. ^ . ^

    1. Thank Stephanie! A couple extra pounds might be the very reason Iโ€™ve veered away from waistbands lol
