Happily unsatisfied

My summer is over. Tomorrow morning when I wake up I will have to actually do that thing, you know…get ready for work. It’s been about eight weeks since I’ve had to do that.

My slow mornings with Sid, hanging out in bed watching his little tv shows and munching on dry cereal, drinking coffee, are over. Reserved now just for weekends I guess. And we all know how fast weekends go by.

All of the faculty will be back to work tomorrow. I’m kind of excited to see some of them. Even more excited for when the new crop of students start class in September. It’s a fun way to spend your day, getting paid. Teaching the students the pearls they will need to know in order to start the new career they’re embarking on.

The bonus is getting to know all of them. You go from learning their first names on the first day to knowing much of their life story by the last. I love that.

Beginning a second career in your forties is like a fresh start. Especially when the previous career was beginning to feel like a ball and chain. How silly that we pick our careers at the ripe old age of oh, anywhere from 18-22ish?

Such a bad idea. It’s like picking your mate for life at such a young age, HORRIBLE idea. Wait, I did that too.

Surprisingly it works out for some people. That same career for your whole working life and that same partner ’til your last breath. Or theirs. Those people are truly the chosen ones, they don’t care about or need second chances.

Are they smarter because they chose better from the start or smarter because they looked straight ahead and never needed anything different?

I am a happily unsatisfied searcher of more but how do I know when it’s time to stop searching?

Welcome back to work:-) we’re coming into our fourth week of school. Good luck with everything. For what it’s worth I started my teaching career in my early 30s. It is always a challenge to switch gears, but I’m so glad I did

  4. I suppose we never stop searching, we’re not made for that, we’re tuned to always be looking out to get that little bit better. It’s good for us in the end I suppose, but we gotta watch the trouble it gets us into too, I suppose. I suppose a lot, maybe too much, but we don’t really know, do we:-)

Nice colour change, (and colour in your pictures)! Very Northern Bloom:-)

    1. Yes you’re right but somehow a select few never seem to start searching, they’re satisfied with the first and only option, for eternity…blows me away.
      And thanks for noticing 🙂
