I’m sure that this had already been explained in an earlier prompt about names.
It’s pretty boring actually. My paternal Grampa was named Carl, hence Carla. My maternal Grampa was named John, hence Joanne.
Carla Joanne Antichow.
The Antichow part is actually a made up name. Seriously. You won’t find any other Antichow’s in the world, except my Grampa’s immediate family. There are only maybe a dozen of us in the world, including me. Not counting the females who were born Antichow and then got married and took their husband’s name.
My great-grandparents came to Canada from…I can’t remember and I’m too lazy to look, Ukraine or Germany or something about the Austro-Hungarian empire, way way back. You know, one of those Eastern European places where now the borders have changed.
Their surname when they came to Canada was Antochow. I believe that was the spelling. Anyway, they decided that to make the name less “ethnic” sounding and more English or Canadian, they changed the spelling to Antichow. Which is an odd name, but I suppose given their understanding of the English language at the time, it makes sense.
If you Google Antochow you will get a lot of results, Antichow not so much. I guess in reality, I am related to the Antochow’s though as well.
