Grand theft auto

Daily writing prompt
Describe your ideal week.

That’s easy to explain, I get what I want when I want it and everyone around me does what I want when I want them to. It’s just that it’s never happened.

Also, the skies are blue and the sun is out, everyday except Wednesday. On Wednesday there’s thunder and lightning and pouring rain. A chef prepares our meals including lunches I take to work and…no stop, this is dreamland.

Okay realistically, I would sort of plan the menu for the week ahead of what to have for supper. That would be ideal. I don’t mind the cooking at all, it’s just figuring out what to eat each night that’s stressful. What is stopping me from planning out the meals for the week ahead? Oh nothing, just me being lazy. I used to do it. Then I stopped.

Ideally my week would include no extra curriculars or appointments. I can handle the daycare drop off and go to work each morning by 8:30 (ish), that’s no biggie. Come home at 4:00 and make supper, throw in some laundry, bath Sid and put him to bed, do the dishes, do some homework, go for a walk etc. But if I have an appointment or Sid has an appointment or my car has an appointment (which it does this week), that leaves me somewhat stressed.

Just over a year ago my car was stolen off the street by my house. Funny story really. At least I thought it was funny. Because my daughter had borrowed the car and afterwards I drove her home, I left one key fob in the car accidentally. Our street was being paved so we couldn’t park in our driveway overnight but for a few hours I was able to park in the school loop across from my house.

So as I lay on the couch watching TV that evening, with living room windows that face the street wide open, some little hooligans must’ve decided to look inside my car for money or weed or something (this is what I’m assuming), and saw the key fob in the cup holder. And off they went with it, unbeknownst to me.

Not even an hour later Clint happened to look out the window and he said “where’s your car?” Anyway I thought it was actually really funny to have my car stolen and I know that sounds juvenile or something but sometimes I laugh at the most inappropriate times. Clint certainly didn’t find it funny and couldn’t (but probably could) believe that I was laughing.

It’s just that you don’t hear of grand theft auto all that often where I live and I’ve never really had anything stolen, much less a car. An entire car. Like they just drove off with it.

We got the car back, by morning the police had found it. About an hour’s drive north of here in a community called Nelson House, or Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation. There was nothing really wrecked on it.

Except they pulled the rearview mirror right off so I’ve been waiting to get that replaced, and some minor scratches on the rear bumper.

It was a group of kids, none were even 18 years old and some as young as 13. They apparently stole gas as well and lucky for me, I got the car back with more fuel in it than when it was stolen. So you have to look on the bright side.

Wednesday I finally get my mirror replaced and the scratches smoothed it.

I ‘spose my ideal week would include my car not getting stolen as well.

  3. Ahhh, this photo! ❤

My daughter had her car stolen and it was completely trashed, so you're fortunate, yet I admit my first thought was "Maybe she doesn't live as out there as I've imagined?" Shenanigans happen anywhere, though, and I think your response is great. My son once split his eye open on a smooth bathtub and when the doctors and nurses were gluing it together I laughed. Doc looked back and me with the angriest look, but it was just a relief response on my part.

    1. Lol yes, life doesn’t need to be so serious and in this case it was just an item, replaceable!

  4. I’ve never had a car stolen. A golf cart, yes. While I was at work. It now has a number pad lock.

  5. I’ve never experienced my car being stolen. Repossessed once (long story), but never stolen. At least you got it back and the damage was minimal.

    Great photo
