Evening is twelve beautiful hours away. What will I do? I will help make supper, (Clint is on holidays right now so he’s actually going to be in charge of supper wahoooo.) But I’ll assist. Sid will be underfoot, running around the house and the backyard, in and out through the patio door umpteen times with his dinosaurs and Captain America.
He goes to bed pretty early these days so by 6:45 I am giving him the five more minutes to play warning. Once he’s tucked into bed, I can really relax. I will hopefully go for a walk around 7:30 with a friend and former coworker who lives just down the street from me.
The walk will energize me. I’m always checking emails, seeing what’s new on WordPress and unfortunately scrolling social media. I’m reading two books right now but both are tough reads, I really have to think and concentrate so I find better to do NOT when I’m already sleepy.
This evening I need to do some homework for the course I’m taking right now, Effective Learning Environments. It’s very interesting, it really is. I feel like the Instructor expects a bit much though, being that all of us students are also Instructors with our own classes to teach and prep for, along with the at home/family obligations. But maybe I was just spoiled in the last course by a super easy peasy Instructor, she had a Kindergarten teacher voice and the mannerisms to go with it. Very soothing.
Writing a six page paper in APA format is something I’m getting used to but it was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone at the start. Until starting this Teaching For Learning course last spring, I hadn’t been a student for 24 years. It’s exciting and I’m thankful for the opportunity to be learning but my evenings are no longer really mine.
In spare moments I’m texting friends, family, the kids.
My evening will also consist of vacuuming the never ending piles of Golden Retriever hair that form like tumbleweeds on the floor and cover her part of the couch. I might also throw in a load of laundry.
And then bam it’s time to have a relaxing bath and get to bed, lights out by 11:30 at the latest, alarm clock set for 5:30.
