Come on WP, do better! May 15 the prompt asked “Do you see yourself as a leader or a follower?”
Like at least put 6 months between repeated prompts.
It wasn’t a cut ‘n dry type of answer for me in May and it won’t be now. My theory is, that because I’m a middle child I can chameleon between leading and following. It depends on the situation I’m in.
Among my peers, no I wouldn’t say I’m a leader. Someone who annoys the f%$# out of me usually jumps in and takes that role. My ideas seem to never be the popular ones, they’re the weird ones. I prefer to sit at the back of the room and possibly roll my eyes every now and again.
In terms of life, and following trends, I’m no follower though. I dislike things that are popular and I prefer to swim upstream. If a movie is posed to be a box office hit, you can bet I won’t be seeing it.
Watching how people follow trends really fascinates me. I pointed this out to my daughter Bella-Lena a couple of weeks ago. She rolled her eyes, wonder where she gets that from.
Case in point: baby strollers were the big thing and have been the big thing for decades now, to transport a baby wherever you want to go if you’re walking. Strollers morphed from baby carriages, which were rough, clunky and metal. However, strollers now are a smoother ride than a Cadillac, they have cupholders, baskets to carry your belongings and some even have a platform for the older kid to ride along.
But then some doofus came along a few years ago and said no. If you want to be cool, you’ll trade your caddy of a stroller in for this new Gen Z pleasing wagon. A wagon! And yeah, if you build it, they will come apparently.
I see wagons all over the place now. Big clunky wagons. You walk and you pull. I’m sure they are practical and a far cry from the old metal Radio Flyers. Actually Radio Flyer makes these new and improved fancy shmancy uber trendy wagons. Good on them for making a comeback.
Anyway, this interests me. The way something is presented to people and how or why said people take the bait and jump on it. I’m not saying I’ve never followed any trend or never purchased something that was new and cool but honestly, it’s rare. I don’t want to do what everyone else is doing.
