Fake docs

Daily writing prompt
What brands do you associate with?

Honestly I prefer recycled clothes, in contrast to the way I don’t prefer recycled prompts.

Yes this question was already asked!

Anyway here goes…

I try not to be a brand person. I refuse to wear anything that has the brand’s logo on the front too. There’s something about advertising for these companies that annoys me.

I’ll shop in any kind of store for clothing, including thrift stores. I’m not looking for any type of brand but if I end up with a luxury brand item from a thrift store, I do think that’s cool.

I’ve had my eyes on a Louis Vuitton bag for years, but I can’t justify spending that much on one. Even if it’s second hand. I don’t want to be that person who cares about owning something so posh yet a little part of me says, yes, do it!

If I am going to spend a bit extra, it’s usually on shoes or boots. I mean, cheapy flip flops are okay for summer but fall, spring and winter I feel it’s worth the money to spend a bit extra.

I am guilty of buying brand name stuff for the kids. When I was a kid, brand name clothes were out of reach and unheard of in my house. That didn’t stop me from wanting them but I rarely if ever got anything brand name, until I started babysitting and was able to buy it myself.

In grade 10 I wanted Doc Marten boots so badly. I begged and begged. I’m not sure how I would have got them because there was no internet and my town didn’t have a store that sold them. You had to go to the city to buy them and we never went to the city. But I do remember begging my parents for them. Other kids had them, my best friend had them.

I ended up with the Sears brand version of Doc Martens. Not pretty, but I was (sort of) proud of them and hoped the other kids wouldn’t notice. One day in a computer class, I noticed two really popular and cool ‘skater’ guys laughing and pointing at my fake Docs. They didn’t notice me noticing them making fun of me. Jerks.

Anyway, I didn’t and still don’t want my kids to go through that and I know how important having the right clothes is, especially as a teenager. So I do make sure the kids, including Sid, who’s three, have the best of things.

And I now own two pairs of Docs so suck it you mean boys.

      1. It’s a given in this world that if I like something it often becomes discontinued or no longer sold in my area. I’ve just accepted it lol

  7. Shoes can be worth the extra expense. I’m a big thrifter, usually online, but a lot that I’ve bought over the last few years hasn’t fit me well. It can be nice to save for something one knows they’ll have for a long long time.

      1. I can only say that I saved for a Prada purse in a throwback style that goes with everything, and haven’t regretted the expense for a minute. I do that almost never though, so well, I guess I do think it can be a good choice once in a while. 🙂

But I would never sway you! hahahha

      2. That sounds very rational and logical…basically saving myself money right? It never goes out of style and goes with everything?! #girlmath
