Your life without a computer: what does it look like?
Well hey great question. Went to turn on my laptop just now and apparently itβs dead. It charged all day yesterday so Iβm not sure how the battery is already drained but okay fine.
So this is what I do without a computer, I type it out on my phone, no biggie.
Jokes aside, (or at least my attempt at being funny), my parents do live without a computer. I really donβt know how. They also donβt have wifi. Just too cheap.
Years ago they did buy a computer when dial up internet was a thing. They sort of got on board. But for the last 15ish years they refuse to budge on paying money for wifi and spending money on a computer.
And cell service in their yard is spotty at best. So they still use a landline. They have an iphone and an ipad but really just for games and such.
I donβt see any advantages to not owning a computer. I mean if youβre taking away computers you need to take away smartphones obviously too.
We can go back to 1987 I suppose. But why.
I will say getting a letter in the mail was exciting. Also the Sears Wishbook that usually arrived in September was a thrill.
I also kind of miss flipping through the latest issue of a magazine. I was staring at magazines in the checkout at Walmart last week, wondering what the actual numbers are, in terms of loss of revenue for the magazine companies.
It was so much fun on a Friday night sleepover with my best friend, she an Elle in hand and I always preferred Vogue.
Flipping through those glossy pages and dreaming and rubbing the Calvin Klein Eternity sample on my neck.
Later weβd use her momβs car and drive to town to rent a movie and grab some snacks.
Imagine, not the whole class or whole school or even whole town took part in this sleepover via Snapchat or facetime. We didnβt invite anyone else into the room to see what we were doing. Just her and I were there in that room. Just the two of us, hanging out. We took no pictures. We just were.
