If someone said they were giving me a free holiday and I just needed to pick mountains or beach, it would be a difficult decision.
Are the mountains located somewhere warm? Is there a nice hotel, lots of shopping and fun things to do in these mountains?
I don’t want to spend my vacation roughing it. And I don’t care about spending a vacation in nature. I grew up in nature, I currently live in nature. And to some people, my childhood was probably “roughing it”.
I certainly don’t want to spend a vacation just laying on a beach either. Not my idea of a good time. While I do like to relax and not just go-go-go while on a holiday, there’s only so much sitting or laying around I can do.
When my ex-husband and I took the kids to Florida in 2009, we did Disney for a couple of days but I wanted the trip to not just be Disney focused.
So we drove to Cocoa Beach…which was fun. We swam a bit, relaxed on the sand, played in the sand. But then I was like okay now what? What do people do at the beach all day?
So we found a spot that had some great key lime pie. We checked out the Ron Jon Surf Shop. And just toured around.
There is a beach up here, at one of our lakes. I took my older kids when they were young and now I take Sid there. He loves it a lot, running into the water and back out. Making little rivers in the sand with his shovel. Pouring water in and watching it run down, back to the water’s edge.
But it’s the least relaxing thing in the world to me. Water and a toddler can be a dangerous combination.
I don’t get to lay there and soak up the sun. I’m not reading a book, snacking on Doritos and sipping iced tea. I’m chasing after him. I’m stuck to him like a fly on you know what. And I can’t wait til it’s time to pack all the crap up and go home, quite honestly.
Back to the sanctuary that is our completely fenced in back yard. Where he can play and I can actually relax, without worrying he will drown.
Naw, I guess I’ll take the mountains.
