Do as I say, not as I do

Daily writing prompt
What could you do less of?

The first thing that comes to mind is eat. I seem to have this voracious appetite as of late. I don’t know why.

I pulled off the intermittent fasting thing for a few weeks and it did work but I probably would have been more successful with it if I hadn’t gorged myself with food during my eating window. It was like my body wanted to make up for all the NOT eating I did when I was fasting all evening, night and morning.

I realized a week ago I should do less mindless scrolling and so I set limits on my phone and it’s been working. One hour on all social media apps combined and then it locks me out of them. Well not actually locks me out, I can bypass if I want but for the most part I don’t.

When one of my kids gets frustrated about life and is going off, I’m always quick to remind them not to complain, compare or criticize yet I’m just as guilty. I need to practice what I preach. It’s funny how having kids just makes you a better person by default. I recall my Dad jokingly saying, when he did something that maybe didn’t set the best example, “do as I say not as I do”. Haven’t tried that one out on my kids, yet.

Lastly, I guess I could do less of criticizing my own appearance, specifically the lines on my face and the bags under my eyes. Shit’s getting really real around here when I look in the mirror these days. I know that it’s inevitable and unavoidable.

Yet it shocks me. How my face is changing, aging. I’m trying to do all the right things like drinking water, getting enough rest etc. I don’t smoke, rarely if ever drink. But it still keeps coming for me.

Awww CJ I think your face is adorable! 😍 I’m no expert on skincare but I always use lotion all over after I get out of the shower, it helps keep my skin looking more youthful. And I was also raised in the “Do as I say Not as I Do” club so I can relate. 😉

You look really good in your photos, CJ – very young, beautiful, and glowing. I’d never guess your real age if you didn’t share it.
But if you feel like you’re aging, I can share something with you (and with all of you, actually). I have insulin resistance and thyroid issues, so after discovering this, I totally changed the way I eat this year… The reason I’m writing this is simply to let you know that when I stopped eating processed sugar (completely), products with E additives, and gluten, and switched to fruits with a low glycemic index, my skin rejuvenated within a couple of weeks. It looks as if I dropped 7-10 years – I’m not boasting here, just sharing girl-to-girl. It might help. Generally speaking, sugar is our greatest enemy, and it damages our skin and overall appearance, quickening the aging processes. So if you ever need such help, I’ve shared a bit of advice, although you look awesome anyway 🙂
Also, face masks made from bananas, potatoes, or rice help smooth out wrinkles.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing! Yes you’re absolutely bang on about the sugar thing and I did try to give up sugar back in April but lately I’ve fallen off that wagon. What you’ve said is a good reminder to climb back up on that wagon, especially going into the holiday season with soooo many tempting treats around.
      Thanks again!

    1. Thanks Michele 😌
I honestly wasn’t fishing for compliments lol, just being my usual open book self. You never think aging is going to happen to you til it does 🤣

      1. You’re welcome and that thought did not cross my mind. Your open book self is wonderful and beautiful! 😊 Yes, about aging! Some things we just need to laugh about and make the most of the time we have. 👍🏻

  6. My Grandfather (Grandpa!) was a ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ guy. He would sit on his kitchen stool leaning on the kitchen bench eating all the bakery goods while complaining about their quality from the bakery he owned next door, barking out orders to the men who came to his back door to get things done for him across his farm and other business ventures. He was a smart guy and towards the end was I think acting more like a bully but in his mind people were trying to take advantage of him.

I tried this attitude with a team of mine once, I had put in the long hours when young and so I actually said ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ to them while I went home and expected them to work into the night. Most understood, I really had nothing else to do, but it really pissed off one or two people, they thought I should be in it too. Sadly, I didn’t keep it up, I think those days are over!

Love your stuff, thanks for the memories:-)

  7. Same girl, same!! I just wrote about similar, sort of. Time doesn’t play! But you’re still gorgeous, so fret not. 🙂

I’ve been having a hard time with the intermittent fasting since Thanksgiving. Also it’s difficult to do when one’s schedule is so different day to day. Walking is going well at least!

    1. Focus on the positives then I guess, walking is the best exercise! I worked out the last 3 days too so I’m happy about that. And I do know that a good appetite is a sign of health so I should be grateful 🥹
