Betty vs Veronica

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite cartoon?

I know this is going to sound weird and odd or maybe like I grew up in a religious cult (lol) but we didn’t watch cartoons as kids. Our TV wasn’t on during the day, certainly not the morning, for the most part. Oh my god maybe this is why I don’t like cartoons today and have a real problem falling into fictional writing! Do you think?

I’m not even sure which cartoons were on TV when I was a kid. I want to say Bugs Bunny and Tweety but I’m really not sure.

This prompt made me realize I had a sugary cereal/cartoon-less childhood. Very interesting and kind of sad. Oh but you know what, I was super into Archie comics in my tween years. So maybe I wasn’t that weird.

If I’d had access to a TV that was turned on and the Archie comics came to life in a show, (maybe this does exist I don’t know), I probably would have watched it. As a brunette I was really into the Betty vs Veronica, blonde vs brunette thing.

  1. Nothing wrong with growing up in a religious cult. We got plenty of ‘Davey and Goliath’ at my encampment.

  2. Pretty dress!

I didn’t like cartoons either, although they were technically allowed. Probably watched them more in after school care than at home.

There are cute ones out now, Bluey seems great and I’d definitely be watching if I had little ones!

  3. My favourite show was of a real life cat who would wander around his house and fall asleep, and once he did all his dreams were of him in cartoon being a ‘super cat’. I don’t know the name of the show, and I’ve spent a long time on google trying to find it, but there are so many cartoons with cats it’s like trying to find an needle in a haystack. Oh, I wish I could watch that again!

I can’t imagine my childhood without cartoons, maybe I’d be much more down to earth like you:-)

    1. LOL that sounds like an interesting show…
I wish I HAD had that Saturday morning, cartoon watching, cereal eating experience. Always want what you don’t have…

      1. You have the whole ‘farm’ experience instead, which I’m totally jealous of! My dad has always talked about horses having personalities like dogs, but I’ve never known one to be able to say. You’ve written about your cow friends, I just can’t imagine.

  4. That is unique. I was raised by a father who was in the television business. So, the TV was on quite a bit and it was updated frequently. Television and cartoons have changed so much since then. I don’t really watch the newer ones that are so popular with?? Adults, it seems. I always liked Veronica too.

    1. What you grow up with is what you think is normal I guess…even as an adult it took me a long time to be okay with having the tv on before supper time lol…but I’m completely over it now. Our tv is on from morning til night although sometimes just for background noise.
Thank you for your comment, and for reading!

  5. It’s never too late to tune in! 📺 Funny, we watched Saturday morning cartoons before heading outside but weren’t allowed to eat sugary cereals except on rare occasions. Oh, how yummy that Captain Crunch was! 🥣

    1. I do remember really loving Alphabits as a kid and maybe teenager. I liked eating them dry without the milk.

      1. I remember that cereal! Fun to spell out words before eating and yes, dry sugary cereal was a yummy snack. 👍🏻 Though dry Captain Crunch did tear up the mouth a bit. 😂

  6. So… I’ve gotta ask, are you taller than a standard refrigerator or is what I’m seeing in this picture a perspective thing? Also, there’s a cartoon called Archie’s Weird Mysteries that’s worth a watch, just a heads up.

    1. Lol I don’t know, I had to go back and look at the picture after seeing your comment….I’m 5’7″ so I don’t know…does that make me ginormica or what?
I think it’s a smallish fridge and whoever took the pic took it from like the height of their belly. Who knows.
