Less Taylor Swift

Daily writing prompt
What are your biggest challenges?

Wow, 2025 here we are. Twenty-five years ago as per my math is 1975 but anyway…

I got a notification from WordPress that I joined one year ago today. I joined and then didn’t know what to say or how to navigate WP so my account just sat there. I think maybe I uploaded some previously written stuff now and then.

I was really frustrated; like what do I write, what is the point of this? Scared a bit to let my thoughts out and have other people see them. I didn’t start writing daily until the end of April I believe.

I’m really inspired by how many books some of you guys read. I definitely want to do more reading (and escaping) in 2025. Not that I’ve anything to escape from but it’s fun just the same to feel like a gecko that’s just blended into my environment and basically disappeared right into the pages of a really good book.

I re-read one of my faves this week, in two days it was done. It made me sad when it ended but I couldn’t help but devour it. “From the Ashes” by Jesse Thistle. It’s insanely inspiring. How the body and the mind can endure years and years of addiction and living on the streets, yet do a complete turnaround to become a thriving, healthy and successful (in many ways) individual.

I follow his Instagram account (his wife is his manager) and he does public speaking events. I commented that I’d love to see him speak (this was during the Taylor Swift Eras tour) and given the choice to see her in concert or see Jesse Thistle speak, I’d choose Jesse Thistle.

Maybe this is something I could try and make happen in 2025. He lives in Toronto. He’s even Canadian!!

I love how January is a reset. To start over trying to do better. I think most of us could use that.

I’m a firm believer in that saying about how we can all evolve and think better, act better and shouldn’t be stubborn, like my Dad, and say “I am the way I am and I’m not going to change for anyone”. That drives me insane.

I’m going to try and move more, walk more and exercise more.

Will make a conscious effort to keep the three bad C’s out of my life and mind: complaining, comparing and criticizing.

Here’s to 2025.

Not sure what I’m looking so happy about, obviously NOT the best hair day here.
One of my alltime faves

thanks for the book suggestion, that’s going on my list! i hope that the wp community we know here keeps blogging. i remember i had the same experience you did when i first got into wp, it looked VERY complicated – and it kind of still is lol.

anyway, best of luck on your resolutions and goals – i know you’ll achieve them, either completely or in a very meaningful way. enjoy the first day of 2025! Mike

  2. I followed you here from my blog: nice to meet you! We’re about the same age and both have kids, so I followed you 😌 Interesting thoughts in this post, and I really need to cut the three C’s, too. I’m actively trying , but then I’m also analytical so sometimes the line between neutral analysis and criticism gets blurred a bit!

  6. Happy 2025!! I was surprised to see that I read 60 books last year. Granted most are audio books and I listen to and from work, but still, I wish I had read more.

    Let’s make 2025 great!

  8. Happy New Year! You’re always searching for the better CJ… she’s there somewhere! It’s a great trait to have. However I can see your dad’s perspective when all he’s trying to do is run a farm and raise 3 daughters.

      1. Men just gotta do what men gotta do sometimes, regardless. Maybe it’s a generation thing too, he wasn’t given the luxury perhaps. We’re lucky we’re so open minded (we hope!).
