My simple brain

Daily writing prompt
Do you play in your daily life? What says β€œplaytime” to you?

Someone else mentioned it as well and I was searching for it but where is this Bloganuary thing? I was excited to participate as I missed it last year because I had only just started my WP journey. It was mentioned a few weeks back but I don’t see it now. I was thinking maybe it’s by invite only?

This is a boring prompt and a bit of a repeat but I guess they all are to some degree.

I play with Sid when and if I have to, as a Mom there are certain expectations around playing with your kids and in some cases it’s really good for kids’ growth and development I suppose. We go to the playground across the street, play catch, hide and seek, etc. I’m thinking he’s almost getting old enough for Snakes and Ladders so I should introduce him to that soon. I like Snakes and Ladders because for one thing you can do it sitting down and you don’t need any imagination. Just count and go. My simple brain enjoys such games.

Besides that, no, I don’t really play anything. I’m the least playful person you’ve met. The word playtime sounds so juvenile. Not interested.

On another note, our ridiculously unseasonably warm weather has blown away. It’s -24 Celsius this morning, which still isn’t too bad for January up here.

I looked back at my journal from this day in 2022 and it was -34 that morning (more normal) and I was complaining about being sore from a Covid booster shot. Thank goodness no more of those.

I have four more days off before back to work and back to reality. And then no more long stretches of time off until spring break.

With the help of my personal interior decorator, my daughter Bella-Lena, I created a writing/working space yesterday.

  2. nice work space! that’s a place where i could do reading and blogging for sure

i share your same sentiments with playtime. i suppose it’s something that happens when it happens.

i’ll look for that bloganuary thing for you. i remember it was so ubiquitous back when i first started scouring the wordpress territories for a landing spot, no one would shut up about it lol

your weather is supposed to be coming to us here in NJ in the next few days. I already ordered salt and other house insulation items. I was thinking I’d go to home depot and take some photos for the blog of me loading it all in the truck but i was like “nah, i’ll just have it delivered to me and mayyybee take pics of it then” πŸ˜‚ Mike

      1. right now we’re at 34ish and dropping and we’ll be down to the teens by next week going into single digits and hovering at or below freezing by the following monday…or so they say.

i can only imagine what kind of weather you are seeing up in thompson!

  3. https://wordpress.com/blog/tag/bloganuary/

so there’s this tag from the bloganuary page and then they give you this vector image that you can copy and paste. although i don’t see a direct 2025 prompt. it seems as if it’s been absorbed/amalgamated through the different daily prompts concept. Mike

  4. What a talented interior decoratir you have! Whereabouts do you live? I live in arctic Finland (between Scandinavia and Russia), but in the south of the country. We usually have a spell of -10C, maybe -20C, but mostly our winters are around zero. In the north, -30C is more normal. I hate winter πŸ˜‹

And I’m not great at playing with my kids either. I have no idea what to do with legos. I usually suggest drawing together or board games, one of them will join me but the other one won’t. If it’s any consolation, I heard from some experts that it’s good for kids’ imaginations to let them get bored and figure out what to do about it themselves, vs always being the playing instructor. I’ve gone by this rule! ☺️

    1. Oh wow that’s so warm lol, here I was thinking you’d be colder there than we are here. I live in northern Manitoba, Canada. About 750 kms north of Winnipeg. I’d say our average daytime high in winter is -20ish Celsius and nights usually for sure -30 but often our daytime high is -30 and nights go down to -40 and even lower. We had a crazy warm Christmas, I suppose thanks to climate change, it hovered right around zero which is very strange!
Yes I totally agree about playing w kids and I’m the furthest thing from a helicopter mom lol, I like to leave them be and let them figure stuff out for themselves! But sometimes I feel guilty and do play here β€˜n there especially with Sid now, he’s just 4 and his siblings all grown up, my older 3 had each other to play with so that was easy peasy.

      1. -30 is exotic for me and I feel like my eyes are freezing in my head! Your weather is surprisingly cold, yikes!!!

As for blogging prompts, there are plenty of other prompts that are popular, run by bloggers, and that you can probably find by searching for their tags. Like Thursday Doors and the numbers game. Well, not sure if that’s ”plenty”, since I can’t come up with more of them right now! 🫣 And I mean, even if these 2 are photography challenges, there’s nothing to stop you from writing about the photo, for example ☺️

  5. Looks like Bloganuary is dead in the water, yeah. And I can’t do anything with the current prompts since I answered them all. Oh, well lol πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

    1. Why can’t you do the prompts? Like what’s the reason??

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Because I already answered them last year. Once you do, it blocks you from answering. I can work around it, it’s just a pain.
