We shall see

Daily writing prompt
What is the greatest gift someone could give you?

The greatest gift someone could give me right now is please listen to me ramble.

I need to make some changes.

I picked up a book yesterday from the library about HOW to write. It’s written by a seventy-four year old woman, Julia Cameron. The very first thing she talks about are something she calls “Morning Pages”. Sit and write each and every morning. Three pages at least. Pen to paper she says. Pen to paper, not laptop.

I bought a new journal the other day. I used to write in a journal every morning. Pen to paper, first thing. Up until a year ago when I joined WordPress. Then felt like I didn’t have the time to do both. So my journaling went out the window.

This morning I got up and wrote first thing, in my journal. It was an amazing release and I’m not exaggerating. I really need to continue with it.

Starting Monday I am back to work and back doing clinical with my students, our day begins at six-thirty am.

I can’t see me having time to journal THEN blog all before six-thirty. I think what I might do is journal in am and blog in the evening.

I woke up with some lines meant for poems in my head this morning. It’s something I really want to try. I’m just not sure if I should post them as me or on my alias blog. I kind of feel like poems written by me, the chicken plucking, former farmer, tractor driving, kind of boring mom life person I am might not be taken seriously?

I don’t know. I feel like poems written by really artsy people would be appreciated more.

In the words of my Dad, we shall see.

  3. I enjoy your posts. I love to write, but my handwriting is awful. I can hardly read what I write. I’m not sure I could journal or blog if there wasn’t a keyboard….lol

Omgsh you should see mine! It’s worse than a dr’s….but that’s good because I don’t have to worry about anyone peeking at what I write in my journal 🤭

We’re definitely on the same page here, no pun intended. I’ve been juggling between physical writing and typing, and trying to get back into the habit of writing on paper. And it is quite a time commitment the more you have to say! Looking forward to reading your poems if you choose to post them.

  6. So there are at least a few ways of doing the daily free-form writing, and it’s indeed liberating to do so. In many ways, you’re already on your way, having the urge to write daily. Natalie Goldberg’s way of “morning pages” is setting a timer for 10 minutes, but those writing minutes have basically the same ‘don’t stop and edit’ philosophy… getting you into the juice! I’m excited for you, and for us, if you choose to share your poetry here, because your whole environment of life has been and is quite different, which I’m sure will come through. ❤

  7. Maybe there’s some content overlap between your journal and your blog? Or maybe during the workday, an idea will come to you for pm blogging…

Re your hesitancy about posting poems… you’re among friends here, folks from all kinds of backgrounds, all with their own particular, lovable style. Hoist those verses up the poetry flagpole and fly them proudly! 😎❤️

  9. We all need those just-let-me-ramble friends. 👍🏻 In the summer of 2019, just before starting my blog I read Cameron’s book and did the morning pages. The entire twelve-week experience was well worth my time. Took me longer than twelve weeks, but that is me with most things. I believe I wrote a bit about it early in my blog. If you’re interested, I can dig around for it and share with you. It may take me a while ( 😁 ) but I’d be happy to, if you’d like.
