Less gum, more fruit

Daily writing prompt
What could you do differently?

Typing this out on my lunch break because I didn’t really enjoy evening blogging last night…what could I do differently?

I can’t stop swallowing my gum. Ever since I was a kid. When I get tired of it, instead of throwing it away or sticking it under a table, I swallow it. I simply can’t not.

I’m back on my intermittent fasting as of yesterday but this morning I was so hungry I kept taking piece after piece of gum from my bag and realized I’m actually so hungry that I’m eating gum.

Adults used to try and scare me out of swallowing it, saying awful things would happen to my guts but I’m 48 and still here and *knock on wood* healthy as a horse.

I need to swallow less gum and more fruit.

  2. I think a lot of us swallowed gum as a kid. For me, I got caught doing it and was told that it could expand in my stomach and explode or something crazy like that and I stopped.

  3. Man, I used to chew gum constantly but I don’t believe I ever swallowed it. I was also told about all the bad things that could happen and I was a very careful child.

  4. I just asked AI whether swallowing gum was okay. It’s response:

Swallowing gum isΒ usually not harmful and will pass through your digestive system and out in your stool

    • Digestion:Β The body can’t digest the gum base, but it can digest the other ingredients like sweeteners, flavorings, preservatives, and medicines.Β
    • Movement:Β Gum moves through the digestive system in a similar way to food.Β Most people’s stomachs empty within 30 to 120 minutes of eating, including gum.Β
    • Time:Β Gum usually passes through your system within less than seven days

So I think you’re okay. But that’s a weird habit, you must have trained yourself up somehow;-P

  5. I used to swallow my gum, too. Adults used to tell me that the gum will stay in my stomach for 20 years. That did make me pause for a bit. I miss chewing gum. Seems like forever since I chewed it.

  6. I was scared out of swallowing gum early in life, but as an adult I just don’t care for it much so no danger. πŸ™‚ Fruit is good. lol

      2. Lol πŸ˜‚ intermittently intermittent, I love that! I’m back on it too but I think on weekends I will cheat, it’s just too hard when I’m at home and in the kitchen all morning. At work, it’s no biggie πŸͺ

      3. I’m the opposite. There’s always some kind of nonsense tempting me in the breakroom, especially Cuban cafecita!
