Told you so

Daily writing prompt
Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

The last three months of my pregnancy with Bella-Lena, I had preeclampsia. My blood pressure was up, I was swollen and not just in the ankles. I looked like a walking marshmallow monster. My forehead was even spongy and my eyes looked like pi$$holes in the snow.

Preeclampsia can be a very serious problem for both mom and baby so I was constantly being monitored by my physician and a couple of times I had to be admitted to the OBS ward. I had been taken off work early and was on bedrest.

My parents lived (and still live) about 650 kilometres south but they made the trip up more than once in those final weeks of my pregnancy. I knew they were excited to become grandparents and would be coming up to see the baby once she was born but I couldn’t believe they drove all the way up here to see me even prior to.

They came just to see me and be with me. Twice. Then came back again when Bella-Lena was born.

They came through for me again when I called to tell them I was getting out of my marriage and moving out because of A, B, C and D, (but mostly because of alcohol use). I had been putting off telling them because I was afraid of how they would react.

I was in such relief when they were fully and completely supportive of my decision. That’s not to say my Dad couldn’t keep his “I told you so” to himself, but still, I could feel the love once again.

  2. I loved reading about your experience. I just had my baby at the end of November and I had preeclampsia as well! It’s such a scary feeling.
