STAY OFF THE COUCH! OR ELSE!!
Totally hijacking the prompt here because I’m too lazy to start a new post. Eighteen years ago pretty much to this minute, Dr. Kania pulled Cordelia Mary Higgins out of my abdomen, during my third and last C-section.

She had a perfectly round and pink little face. I wanted to call her Rosebud because she looked just that, a rosebud.
There are two Canadian references to her name Cordelia. The first is that “Cordelia” is a song by the Tragically Hip, which was/is her Dad’s favourite band. The second is from Anne of Green Gables, Cordelia is the name Anne wished she’d had.
Cordelia was mauled (gently but still) and adored by her older sister and brother right off the hop. They were happy to have this new little baby in the house.
As soon as Cordelia could move she refused to be left behind by them. She was very much a tomboy as a kid and wore her brother Taz’s clothes all the time, including his hockey gear. She played hockey too but was mostly there for the socialization.
When I was 21 and announced to my parents that I had a boyfriend who already had 2 kids (by two different mothers), they laughed and said “Carla, you’ve been exciting right from the start”, and this is how I’d describe Cordelia as well.
She keeps us on our toes.
I think she loved and revered being the baby of the family, but when Sid joined our family in 2022 she rose to the challenge of finally being a big sister. She insisted on skipping school the afternoon that he was delivered to us and she’s been a constant in his life since that moment.
They have a very close bond and even though she and Sid drive each other crazy, teasing, bugging and annoying one another, they’re like magnets to each other and always seem to end up side by side.
She’s had a charmed life and yet she hasn’t. She’s been through some very crappy ordeals in her 18 years, most recently losing her best friend in the whole world last July to brain cancer. Breese would have turned 18 next month. Oh the trouble they would have gotten in, both 18, yikes.
Cordelia and I are alike in all the ways my older daughter Bella-Lena are not. It’s crazy how you can see all of these different characteristics of one’s self, divided up amongst your kids. I would say Cordy and I are very very similar, though she won’t like to hear that lol.
I hope she has the best birthday today and I just know the world has amazing things in store for her in her life.
Happy Birthday my blue eyed beauty!
