Happily ever under a contract

Daily writing prompt
Do you need a break? From what?

The very odd time I will be consumed by a hormonally-driven state of unhappiness and I’ll hide in my bed and hope everyone leaves me alone.

Other than that, I don’t feel that I need a break from life, for the most part. I am grateful for a fairly stress-free life, with my health intact (and my mind). My partner and I both have jobs and incomes that allow us to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. So I can’t complain.

I’m not saying I need a break from my partner, I’m just saying that I watched this stand-up comic talk about how marriages should be based on contracts ie. five year contract or ten year contract and then you re-evaluate, and I love this idea. Am I kidding? I’m not sure.

Happy Friday 🙂

  1. I think it’s an interesting idea, one that might’ve save me several years in my past marriages lol

  3. I remember saying talking with my then fiance about this kind of idea before becoming engaged, sort of a deal that if ten years in we were miserable we would do our best to part well. It was silly of me, I guess, to think he would stick by such a thing. I think I was testing him at the time, so afraid to be trapped in a bad marriage.

    1. I really do think this is being realistic. But I can see why people see it as maybe a cop out, an easy out. Forever is pretty out of touch, in my opinion, but I know not many would agree with me.

      1. Forever made sense with much shorter lifespans and geographical limitations. Maybe it’s still important to ‘intend’ forever, but that’s also the framework that leaves so many in bad situations. Forever, but with a prenup. lol Have to put on one’s denial glasses somewhere. 😀
