Life’s good

Daily writing prompt
Write about your dream home.

It’s huge. And I might even hire some help. It’s out in the country, on several acres. By a river. Well water but really good, soft water and lots of it.

At least twelve bedrooms that are massive with lots of windows in them. Each has an ensuite.

I don’t have any baby pics of Sid but we stole this off his bio dad’s fb page

A massive kitchen with an island big enough to seat at least twelve kids. They are enjoying a delicious breakfast, these kids of mine. They are laughing, joking, teasing and the older ones fawn over the younger ones. I’m filling glasses with more orange juice and giving the babies more scrambled eggs on the trays of their high chairs, wiping mouths.

I pause for a moment and feel sad. Thinking about the awful lives these kids had prior to be apprehended and then being placed in the foster care system. Breaks my heart. So I snap back to reality.

These kids have given me and taught me more than I could ever teach them. It’s not the difference I’ve made in their lives, it’s the difference they’ve made in mine.

Sid rules the roost because he’s got the most “seniority” but I love them all equally and all as my own. We don’t use the “f” word, foster. They are mine.

I had three biological kids who were almost grown when Sid came along but he sparked in me a fierce, protective love that I’ve never known before. And in my ideal home, I have that times twelve.

Life’s good.

  1. Wow, love this one. Your heart for foster kids is commendable. My heart so breaks for all those kids in the foster system, especially the older ones, just hoping, dreaming for a family to love them as their own.

  3. A big home like that sounds wonderful! I’m not far from the oldest kids being married with kids. It would be nice to have a place that would accommodate such a large family.

  5. It’s so funny that I understand your priority about soft water. I did not think you had that issue. Do you not get water from the city of Thompson?

We have this product here in the US, I’m sure it’s sold under a different name in Canada but here it’s called The Works. And it’s specifically formulated to battle the side effects of hard water on bathtubs and toilets. Anyhow, when I was up in the mountains, it was hard water galore. The local shopping place would only get a specific amount of it delivered and I’ve seen people come to blows over a bottle lol.

It’s a beautiful house dream you have CJ. I can imagine how happy those little ones would be in that kitchen especially with your cooking skills. You’ll certainly need a dual oven unit and a massive fridge. Perhaps one of those mini heating stands for your homemade pizzas would help. And I’m sure you’d have a blast mowing some of the property yourself on a zero-turn I am crossing my fingers that it comes to you – not somehow, someway – but sooner rather than later! Mike

    1. We have fabulous city water up here!
But i know from growing up on a farm that some wells suck. I had frnds with really hard water that made their hair nasty, their bathtubs stained by like a rust stain?! So to live in the country and have good water is optimal.
I’m so happy you could envision my big happy home and you’re so right about the pizza thing…riding lawnmower, an absolute must!

  6. Yes, life is good. And thank you for being an amazing mom to Sid and to all your children. We are blessed with a God-given gift, my nephew, that makes my second eldest sister an instant mommy.
