Stop for what

Have you ever unintentionally broken the law?

Of course, I mean who hasn’t…lead foot on the gas pedal, okay that’s actually intentional.

Cordelia & Taz, kids 2 and 3 ☺️

Going the wrong way on a one way street.

It would be much easier to fill the page if the question asked when had we intentionally broke the law.

Besides breaking traffic laws, how could you unintentionally break other laws? Accidentally murder someone?

Even if it’s something as simple as jaywalking or littering, we KNOW it’s illegal.

Yet we do it.

I say if nobody’s around to witness it, no harm done. I mean for the little things. Littering, however, is never cool.

Years ago I was driving through the town where I went to high school to catch up with the rest of my family at church. At the last intersection with traffic lights, it turned red. I stopped but then thought, like seriously, why am I sitting here waiting for the green light? There’s not a soul around. Not one other car or person in sight from any direction. So I took off.

Of course my kids were quick to point out (and tell all of my family) that I ran a red light. But there was no harm done. Stop for what?

  1. You really sound like a Mistang driver. Lead foot, running reds, and if nobody’s around… it doesn’t count.

  2. the neighborhood i live in has a stop sign that is mostly for the purpose of slowing drivers down so they don’t put the pedal to the metal on this little neighborhood street. i just realized that i always stop no matter what time day or night. but the other day i ran it because the roads were bad and it made more sense to keep my forward momentum going. scofflaw!!

    1. I think if you’re aware of it, you stop for it SOME of the time, then that should suffice!

      1. Oh, you don’t use that word? Yeah, I suppose like tattling, but we don’t really use that. Yeah, we would say to someone ‘You’re such a dobber’ after you got caught and belted by your mum.

  5. Let them kids know what snitches get, okay?!!! LOL. Kidding. Kidding of course.

I do my best to be careful at all times now, because I’ve gotten three tickets already here in Minnesota for speeding down country roads, but when you have an entire open road to yourself, and the music is blasting – it’s hard not to get lose in a little speed.

    I’ve learned my lesson.

And actually – we have a light in the nearest city that NEVER CHANGES TO GREEN after a certain hour, so I will admit – I did turn while it was red a few times. Many people have.

Other than that – I’m pretty good keeping rules and following them. πŸ™‚

      3. πŸ™‚ I joke with my kids all the time, and because I major in Criminal Justice right now and plan to become a probation officer – my 16- and 22-year-olds like to tell me the same thing:
“Mom, just remember – snitches get stitches”. lmao
