Pleasing you pleases us

Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

This is so timely considering what’s happening south of the border right now.

Of course it sucks that DT was re-elected and all this tariff stuff has the hair on the backs of our necks up, BUT if there’s one good thing that’s come from it, it’s that Canadians are uniting more than ever.

We are banding together and trying to “buy Canadian” and avoid American made products. I realize that having options and choices is a good thing but why haven’t we been purposely supporting our own producers and manufacturers all along?

Even before the DT problem, I was always proud to be Canadian. I think we’ve created and maintained a good name for ourselves.

We’re like the middle child. We might not be the smartest, we definitely do not have the type A personality, and we may not be the toughest. Nobody really fears us. But we have moxy. Personality.

And we’re great at pleasing everyone.

Just a middle child, perusing the shelves

  1. Hi CJ,

I just lost my entire message typing it here. In a nutshell, Godin guitars are made in Canada and very high quality; in the nineties a local music store offered a line of their basses and I regret that I didn’t try one of them myself. Unfortunately that business closed some time ago: Musicians Depot went out with the nineties. It was a cool place to go, housed in an old Chinese restaurant building. Take care and I’ll see you again soon.

    1. Aww that’s cool, thanks for sharing Rob! I didn’t realize there was ever such a thing as made in Canada guitars!

  2. I guess I’m not very patriotic if I’m here cheering you on. Of course, I don’t wish for my country to do worse, but I feel like people who voted for DT are living in a reality show rather than the real world. Not sure what it takes to snap us out of the distortions, and I don’t wish for suffering, but how are people not screaming WTF with our targeting Canada?!?! Ugh.

      1. 😦 I follow a Canadian writer named Dave Pollard, or well, I accumulate his newsletters in the inbox of an email account I rarely check. I read a few this morning and had more of an impression of there always being a quiet threat under the surface from the US, which I can see. For many years I’ve been concerned by ‘water wars’ and have wondered why there is so little news coverage of the eventual climate refugee crisis. Bad for business, is what I’ve thought mostly, in a country that’s business-first. But I guess we’re seeing the road get narrower. 😦

  3. I think the reason you’re not supporting our own producers and manufacturers is the same reason we stopped doing it down here and that’s because moving production overseas saved a ton of money and maximized profits for businesses. I honestly don’t know why our president wants to suddenly add tariffs (and retaliatory tariffs?) to everything now unless the goal is to increase inflation and make everyone poorer. But I’m not an economist so who knows.
