Painting my life away, or hoping to

Daily writing prompt
Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

I’m not really good at that kind of stuff. I’ve repainted headboards for beds. I DIY’d a bed canopy for Bella-Lena when she was little. I painted the living room of the house my ex-husband and I owned three or four times. Funny how changing the paint colour doesn’t fix your marriage.

I love putting furniture together with the little booklet of instructions, a bag of screws and washers and an allen key.

Of course, I like to think of myself as an independent woman who doesn’t need a man for anything, and will to the day I die. That being said, I’ve never built a fence or put an extension on the deck.

I suppose I could if I really had to but sounds like a lot of math and I’m no good at math. I could never be a carpenter. I prefer guesstimating to measuring and am far from a perfectionist.

I dye my roots every month and I cut my own hair, does that count?

Can’t wait to say bye-bye to the snow!

  1. i think even the smallest project one can do to make their lives easier or more colorful counts as a significant DIY. if anything, i’d tell you to go purchase a cheap driver and bits in order to save yourself from joint pain in your hands. have a great day CJ! Mike

  3. I learned something which I’d like to share with you about assembling furniture with allen keys.
    .
I have a cordless drill, and I put these little ‘bits’ into the end to drive crews. You know the type; Philips or Robertson screw head on one end, and just a hexagonal shape on the other end. That’s the part that fits into the drill.
    .
Well, if you flip it around, that hexagonal shape is exactly the same size as those allen keys that come with Ikea furniture (or similar). No more busting your knuckles… just power your way to furniture assembly bliss!

  5. You like putting furniture together? Not sure I’ve heard anyone say that before! Having said that, I designed my entire Ikea kitchen through their online app and put that in, was quite a lot of work. Renovated my house, I counted that I did 600 nails through hardwood floors but hand. That was hard work! Maybe that’s why I have an aversion towards it now:-)

  6. I can relate. I can sew and follow (Ikea) instructions, but the handywoman gene skipped me. My mom and daughter are mechanically inclined and so creative! 🤩

    1. Well I can’t even sew Michele, so you got me there…that whole left side of my brain is dead I swear 🤷🏻‍♀️☺️

      1. I doubt that! Maybe you just haven’t found your left-side thing. 🤔 btw pole dancing on the left side is a challenge! Good to be balanced, though. 😄
