Boring might be the new exciting

Daily writing prompt
What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.

It’s easily what are you up to this weekend?

Why do people ask that? Do I look young and vivacious and like I do things?

My weekends are always the same. I’m not complaining. I like boring.

I do housework that I didn’t get to during the week. Laundry, vaccuming, cleaning the bathroom etc.

I go grocery shopping. I cook. I make meals. Workout. Take naps.

If I feel like stepping out of the box I’ll take Sid to the library or go thrifting.

Some friends will ask me every single Friday, what are you up to this weekend? Like I’m supposed to have an exciting answer, and I never do. Or rarely.

I would really prefer people don’t ask me that. And don’t text me on a Saturday and say, so what are you up to today?

Just leave me be and let me live my boring piddly little weekends of mundane but awesome chores. I think my weekends are great but when you make me spell it out for you and list what I’m going to be doing, it sounds pretty lame.

it is an overused question, isn’t it? but your weekends sound like a dream, at least to me that likes to keep days and weekends clear and chill. Mike

    1. The second worst question is when servers in restaurants ask “so what are your plans for the rest of the day?” I know they’re paid to be friendly but like, I don’t really wanna list all the boring things I’m about to do!

  5. This is such a relatable take! Not everyone fills their weekends with big adventures, and honestly, the simple routines—chores, naps, and quiet outings—are just as fulfilling. Maybe people ask out of habit or small talk, but it’s fair to wish they wouldn’t! Your weekends sound perfect in their own way. ✨

  6. Such a perfect answer. That question is left over from school days, and even then I remember the pressure to have some answer to give on Monday. I remember purposefully getting sunburned so it looked like I had an exciting weekend! @@
