The best compliments I’ve received were the ones that involved my brain and not my appearance, shockingly. Although a longgggg time ago this guy that I’d had a major crush on all throughout junior high, confided in me years later that I had a nice butt. That felt pretty good.
Back to the internal stuff.
When I was in college and at the end of a practicum, our Instructor sat with us to go over our evaluations. I was crazy about this particular Instructor, Cathy. She had been a nurse for thirty-plus years and was so smart.
In my evaluation she encouraged me to continue with my education and go for a degree in some type of nursing. She felt that I should end up working in an Emergency unit or something fast paced. She said my brain worked faster and I processed information faster than other people. She carried on, explaining what she meant and giving me examples of it. I was in shock. I was like WHAT??! It was such a huge compliment, especially coming from her.
All through school right from Grade One I was usually one of the first ones to do a test or complete whatever it was that needed to get done. I had teachers say that I “rushed” to finish my work, but I wasn’t rushing as in to race, I just wanted to get it done. Over with.
Not so sure Cathy would say the same about me now, my forty-eight year old brain seems to require some nudging at times lol. But it was truly the best compliment I ever received and of course I didn’t take her advice and continue on with my education.
