My go to

Daily writing prompt
Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.

I did answer this prompt a year ago today and explained how my Aunty Janice had been a massive support (and my immediate go-to), when I made the decision to leave my then-husband. I was scared to tell my parents, which to me was the catalyst that would make it real and force, or allow, me to actually leave.

Aunty Janice completely had my back and encouraged me to tell my parents, reassuring me that they would be supportive. She was right.

You can read all it about it here and other than that, I’m grateful to my parents for instilling confidence in me. They were always there with their little nudges, pushing me and letting me know I can do whatever I set my mind to.

  1. Some people are like spare keys—we don’t think about them every day, but when we’re locked inside a life that doesn’t fit, they quietly open the door. Your Aunty Janice sounds like one of those rare keys.

It takes so much courage to leave a place where your name is called but your soul feels ignored. And to speak it out loud—to parents, to yourself—that’s like pulling a heavy coat off in the middle of a storm, just to breathe again.

We carry so many silent bruises, but sometimes all it takes is one calm voice saying, “It’s okay to start over.” You listened. And that’s the bravest part.
