I don’t really feel like talking religion when it looks like armageddon is set to occur outside at any moment. The sky is a dark orangey/yellow colour that makes it look like we’re living in the Sepia filter.
There are forest fires in all directions around us and though we aren’t in imminent danger right now, it’s so smoky here that the streetlights are on and it looks like it’s dusk, even though it’s nearly ten am.
I’m with my students doing their clinical placements right now so I’m walking between the hospital and the personal care home to check on them and when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror I thought oh wow, two cute new freckles on my nose but nope, it’s ashes. They wiped off.
People who do pray will be praying hard right now that these fires do as little damage as possible. Several communities around us have been evacuated and my hope (and prayer) for them will be that they have homes to return to.
