The way to my heart

Daily writing prompt
Describe your dream chocolate bar.

I don’t know if this is actually a thing with other people but as I get older I can’t handle sweets like I used to. When I was seventeen I could kill some Reese peanut butter cups and wash it down with chocolate milk and still go back for more.

Now though? No thanks. Can’t do peanut butter cups or any other milk chocolate bar. I had a Snickers the other day when we were fishing and I kind of had to force myself to finish it. Too sweet! What is happening to me?! Some kind of curse.

I recall, as a kid, grownups around me passing on the desserts at times, saying they couldn’t handle sweets. Now that’s me. I’m the old lady who only craves dark chocolate.

Because I need something sweet after every meal, including breakfast, (plus six other times throughout the day), I keep Lindt Excellence Sea Salt Dark chocolate in the fridge at all times. I am rarely without it.

Each time I need a hit, I break a piece off. Oh and I have to hide it from Cordelia because unfortunately she loves it as well. So it’s strategically placed under or inside of other items in the fridge she dislikes.

Does Clint ever buy me flowers? No. But he sometimes returns from the grocery store with two Lindt Excellence chocolate bars for me and that’s even better than flowers.

  2. I might be a slight anomaly, because I can still knock back a bag of M&Ms with a Coke and think nothing of it. πŸ˜„

  3. I still crave certain sweets, but not as much as I did as a younger person. Now in my 60’s, I like dessert but sometimes the sweetness is too overpowering to my palate. Ice Cream is never out of season for me. Maybe some Tapioca pudding once in a while. Dessert was a big thing around my house growing up, so I also want, no, need something sweet after eating a meal. It’s such a hard habit to break, isn’t it?

  4. Strange how you’re moving from sweet to bitter as you get older ;-P

You’re obviously sweet enough already (awwww).

At least your preference for chocolate has become more expensive, and Clint is enabling you with that!

      1. Ha. Maybe you’re more discerning now and realise all sweet is not good for you, you need to swallow some bitterness every now and then, but you enjoy it πŸ™‚

This metaphor could on go for hours!

  7. We’ve been buying the Hershey’s special dark chocolates and are very good about having one here or there. I know what you mean, but it’s honestly a great thing not to have the extreme surges that come from processed sugar. ❀

    1. Yep absolutely, another thing about getting older, those extreme energy crashes after eating something too sweet!
