Well that’s easy. He’s around three feet tall, calls me Mommy and relies on me for pretty much everything including wiping his butt. His name is Sid.
I love all my kids but he’s my favourite. Just kidding but not really.
Here’s the skinny on the magazine situation in my town. I looked around town for them. I didn’t go to every gas station but so far the only place I’ve seen magazines was Walmart. It wasn’t the magazine rack of twenty years ago, I’ll tell you that much. It didn’t appear that they keep up with new issues of the maybe six different magazines they had, it was mostly “special issues” of magazines that have less of a time stamp on them. There was still an Easter issue of a cooking magazine on the rack for example.
I ended up choosing the Mother’s Day issue of First for Women. Not really what I was going for but I was bound and determined to pick one of them at least and not leave empty handed. I also took a special edition of Maclean’s (Canadian) that was dedicated to highlighting Canadian places to eat, an “elbows up” edition if you will. Again, not what I wanted but sometimes you have to take what you can get.
I will eventually check the rest of the gas stations in case I’m missing out. What I really wanted was like a Vogue or something. I wanted to smell some perfume samples inside. Pretend I was 16 again.
What I might have to do, which Cordelia suggested, is actually subscribe to a magazine. That would be cool.
This morning it is super smoky outside. An air quality alert is in effect, like many other places. Another town about 200 km’s to the west of us has issued a mandatory evacuation notice to its residents. So far we are safe though. I mean we’re surrounded in all directions by fires but none are closer than 150 km I’d say. And they’re forecasting 90% chance of rain tonight so fingers crossed.
Needless to say I won’t be calling Sue for a walk this morning. I’ll still call her but we won’t walk.
Please please rain.
