Daily writing prompt
Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

To be honest, my love of thrifting is not borne out of my love for the environment or my want to leave as little carbon footprint as possible. I mean, I could lie and say that but it’s not so.

I like old things, used things, second hand things, antique things, and I always have. They’re just…interesting.

I’ve thought about making one of those pacts where I only buy second-hand clothes for one solid year. But honestly, I don’t know if I could stick to it. We only have one thrift store now so the selection isn’t great.

I did shop there to find something for Cordelia’s graduation and actually got two dresses and a pair of shoes for $20. Great deal!

But.

I put the shoes on for Cordelia’s prom photoshoot and within 10 minutes they broke. So they went in the garbage.

I guess I could make a pact to MOSTLY purchase second-hand clothing, as much as possible.

Two things I want to do in the future are compost and buy a rain barrel so I can reuse that water for watering my flowers instead of getting water from the tap.

This is one of my thrifted dresses but I didn’t end up wearing it, it had too much boobage when I sat down, it did this gaping open thing

  1. In LA, The Melrose Trading Post is open every Sunday and there are a bunch of stands selling all sorts of things. Many of the stands sell thrifted clothing and itโ€™s always a hit. Being in Melrose, there probably is a bunch of cool trendy stuff. Iโ€™ve bought artwork and a few accent furniture pieces there over the years. Itโ€™s fun to browse.

  2. There is a meteorologist on one of our national networks who only wears second-hand clothes. She often alters them. Her outfits are fabulous and different every day.

  4. I’m with you! I love vintage clothes and items not found in department stores. I’ve found some unique items recently at newly discovered secondhand stores. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป The “open gaping thing” is a great reason to wear a vintage brooch. โœจ
