Work in progress…

Daily writing prompt
What could you let go of, for the sake of harmony?

I could/should/need to, let go of trying to understand why people think what they think or believe what they believe. And just go with it.

Easier said than done however. Especially when it’s people in my close circle.

The forest fires have returned, in full swing and as bad as they were in May/June. Only this time, one of the fires is just seven kilometres north of town. Too close for comfort.

As we were trying to act oblivious to the situation and carry on with life, driving out to the lake to do some fishing on Saturday, Clint asked, what’s the first thing you’d do if they said we had to evacuate?

I said well, obviously gather important things necessary for survival such as lots of water, non-perishable snacks for Sid and the girls, some clothes, pillows, blankets and then hopefully I’d have time to grab the photo albums etc.

He says nope. As though I’ve given the wrong answer. His most important and number one task is empty all the meat from the freezer. I said are you insane? Are you on glue? And he’s adamant that he’s right and my list of things is ridiculous.

But the more wrong I tell him he is, the more he digs his heels in and insists he’s right. Just imagine if we lost power and all that meat rotted in there, the smell, the blood leaking out. Ummmm if our house burns down it doesn’t really matter does it, I replied.

I think our survival is more important than stinky rotten meat smelling up the house.

Anyway, after a few minutes we both dropped it so as to not ruin our afternoon of fishing with the tension between us. Two days out and it makes me kind of laugh but I just don’t understand his answer.

Do I need to understand? Probably not. But what the what. No buts. Just accept that everyone has different ideas and opinions and don’t focus on the fact that your life partner’s first priority isn’t the kids but meat.

Okay I got this…

Quick 8 second vid of Sid catching/running from a fish 🙂

i had that situation: near catastrophic event and one person’s concern was about the meat we had just bought from the store rotting.

    the phenomenon is real.

i have no idea …. it’s like one of those things. that’s just how the person thinks. it was shocking to me when it happened. but after you see it, you get a sense of the person and i suppose that’s a good thing in terms of prepping.

speaking of which, i was so caught in the meat prioritization lol. but i hope those wildfires get contained soon. i feel for you guys up there. we are getting some type of rain all this week so i can breathe easy. we had 2 wildfires in the last 8 months and they were also too close for comfort. stay safe up there.

  2. I’ve been thinking about you guys when I saw NO061 pop up, its a big one 5900ha. You are right btw lol. Do you know where they might want you to go, South on Hwy 6 is Winnipeg still the best destination, not a tonne of options in between.

    Stay safe.

  4. If he takes it out, then it definitely will go off, won’t it? If he’s concerned with the smell, roll it outside with an extension cable before you go so it’s not in the house.

Maybe there’s something in that freezer he doesn’t want to be found out about … ooohhhhhhhhhhhhh (scary movie sound). just jokes of course!

    1. Yeah i think he just didn’t want it rotting inside the house 🤷🏻‍♀️
Last year we had a freezer die that we didn’t realize died til this god awful smell was coming from it and there was leakage on the carpet…what had been inside of it was a beaver carcass 🤢🤢🤢

      1. ohhh yeah. Maybe he can’t get over that smell.

A few years back my neighbourhoods electricity went off for 3 days over summer, with 40 degree days and very hot nights. It was a nightmare (yes, I moved out of the first world for a few days, poor me). You had to then fill in forms to get a max of $50 from the electricity company for the lost food in the fridge. I did it just to hurt them so they would be more wary of doing it again (hopefully).

      2. That smell ughhhhh, it was awful!
But still, leaving with kids/food/necessities is more important in my books!
Poor you, having to leave the first world comforts temporarily 😉
