Death by slobber

Daily writing prompt
Dogs or cats?

As pets, I really don’t care, I like both cats and dogs. We currently have one of each. They each have their good points and their bad.

I appreciate the sort of protective factor of a dog, it’s especially nice to have our dog along when I go for a walk. I like to fake that she’s slightly unfriendly and maybe a tad unpredictable, just to keep people on their feet.

She would never actually hurt anyone, other than licking you to death but if I am out for a walk and I see a group of people coming that are behaving in an obnoxious way, I tighten up her leash and pretend I’m having trouble controlling her. This hopefully makes them want to give us as much room on the sidewalk as possible. I also go way around them to make it look like I’m protecting them from her.

In reality, she’s a Golden Retriever who is scared of her own shadow, a nervous nelly. She’ll bark at other dogs or people, if she’s in our backyard and there’s a fence between her and them. That’s when she really feels big and tough.

Cats just walk around the house meowing and being annoying but they will instinctively kill mice and since I’m terrified of mice, I’m more than happy to keep a cat around for that specific reason.

  4. This photo captures everything great about having a dog in one’s life. They’re just always… available and open, so bring that out of others. πŸ™‚ Very precious moment captured.

      1. I look back and wish we’d had a dog when the kids were little, but we had great cats. πŸ˜€

      3. It just always seemed it would be too much and the dog would be neglected. It’s silly logic because how would a dog be neglected in a house with 3 kids?! lol

  5. Precious photos. “Nervous nelly” sounds like a sweetheart. I love both cats and dogs. Although I don’t have either right now, I enjoy visiting my grandcats in the Pac NW. πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›
